History and curiosities
Some curiosities: Piacenza is the only province in Europe that boasts 3 cured meats with Protected Designation of Origin: the Coppa Piancentina, the Salame Piacentino and the Pancetta Piacentina. In addition to these tasty cold cuts, there are cheese -among which the well-known Grana Padano DOP- tomatoes and other vegetables. But this is not all: Piacenza also features several DOC wines that are traditionally produced on the suggestive slopes of our hills. Taste our red Gutturnio or our white sparkling Ortrugo, you’ll love them.
The territory of Piacenza is a succession of magnificent valleys, each with its peculiarities and its products.
Val Tidone, one of the oldest areas of Piacenza wine production. The Val Trebbia, one of the most beautiful valleys in Italy where the splendid medieval town Bobbio is located, awarded “Borgo dei Borghi” 2019.
The Val Nure which offers splendid views and is the cradle of many delicious products and the Val d’Arda which winds along the river of the same name, a land of cured meats and agricultural productions.
